I first met Jimmy Herring after an Aquarium Rescue Unit show at Max's on Broadway in Baltimore, MD (9/24/92). He and the rest of the band, including Col. Bruce Hampton and Oteil Burbridge, were packing up their own gear after the show and were easily approached. Jimmy was very soft spoken and very sincere when he asked me what I thought of the show. At that point I was really into what these guys were doing and I told him I thought the show was fantastic. Not only was the band tearing it up, but Col. Bruce was a mad man! He was playing that tiny electric guitar of his and thrashing it around, even tossing it on the floor and pretending to light it on fire Jimi Hendrix style. And the band followed suite by playing full tilt jams. Jimmy appreciated the kind words. I've been lucky enough to speak with him a few times since this show and he's always been very chill and genuine, not to mention a kick ass guitar player. I tore this great poster off the wall that night and had Oteil and Jimmy sign it.
